nature's zodiac

My new book is almost finished, and I am enjoying playing around with cover designs.

For anyone interested, this is a book about nature as a “physics” that we can learn more about through a torus model (elegantly preserved in the timeless and evolving wisdom of the zodiac.)

My first book, The Toroidal Zodiac: Beyond the Wheel, was released in 2023, and this new book is the result of three more years of contemplation. I am, as Thomas Carlyle coined the term, a “hedgehog” writer, not a “fox.” The fox “knows many things,” but the hedgehog knows “one big thing.” That’s me, with this torus model of nature’s physics.

I am so excited for this book’s release. In it, I cover the deeply central role that beauty plays in our lives, cultivating healthy, toroidal flow in an energy field that moves toward finer and truer coherence. I have discovered such rich insights from philosophers like George Santayana, Henri Bergson, Goethe, and Alexander von Humboldt, to name a few.

I have studied the modes of Romantic thinking that emerged after the Age of Enlightenment, whose “cold rationality” stirred the spirits of poets to affirm the life they felt inside. The times feel so similar today, with highly digital landscapes replacing natural atmospheres. It is an exciting time of discovery, and yet there is a distinct nostalgia for “simpler times” and more natural landscapes.

It is a great time to “come home” to ourselves by better understanding nature. We can wake up to our innovative powers and our restorative ones as well.
